How the UK government betrayed its Northern Ireland Veterans
I’ve written a post over on my website which covers the government’s betrayal of the Op Banner Veterans, the former soldiers who were deployed to Northern Ireland during the nearly 40 year conflict.
It still staggers me that those in power will provide terrorists and criminals with immunity from prosecution for previous crimes yet allow 80-year old Veterans to face show trials for alleged wrongdoings 50 years before. Alleged wrongdoings that were already investigated and the individual cleared.
I use an analogy of a WW2 veteran facing a trial in 1975 for actions he took in 1945 with no new evidence or testimony given to justify such a trial. And yet, clunky as it may be, that analogy is not a million miles from what is happening to our Op Banner Veterans.
Anyway, the link is at the bottom of this post and I just hope it brings home the point of how ludicrous and unjust this situation is.
